Art : Art for charity? Just a dream?

Writing articles is a job, something I studied in two countries and have a master's degree in...

Painting with oil is an adventure, an escape, a way to travel through other worlds and communicate without physically leaving. Choosing to become pregnant six times in a row gave me a fresh and candid look at the exertions which await and confront a woman, newly aware she is a baby bearer.

Everyone always seems to let you know you alone are responsible, it was your decision, but wouldn't it also be nice if the public and government really took a stand for the future life as something positive and support women in their challenge. Babies are loved and appreciated when they're born but what happens until that time arrives?

I started thinking about everything a pregnant woman needs to acquire additionally to a non-pregnant woman up to the birth of the baby, which seems to be put a bit under taboo by today's society. My future dream is to try to fill this deficit not only with financial means but also build awareness in the society about these needs... hence, www.babiesandmamasneeds.com.

A charity for everything ranging from hygiene products for example: panty liners, shampoo, creams for mama...for the baby diapers, creams...for the birth and after a baby book, clothing for the baby, a proper baby bed. Until something emerges in the United States system I want to support pregnant women and unborn babies (women and children).

I want to develop or achieve a system like WIC (Women, Infants and Children Program) only different. In the time of the pregnancy and the development of the children many people aren't aware of what financial expectations are thrown upon the women. Alone the hygiene products...everyone knows a baby means more people in the family and with that comes automatically the fact of supplying and buying more food, but what a lot of people don't think about is the tons of diapers, toilet paper, moist wipes you need in this peiod of time from the birth of the baby up to, through, and after potty training.

It is a pretty substantial financial change for a pregnant woman / family to be exposed to just in order to keep the baby (later toddler) clean, especially according to today's social standards. There are very high standards on cleanliness today, I'm not necessarily being critical, but somehow it doesn't seem right that a woman goes to jail because her child was found in a "soiled" condition from the authorities. Why does it come this far? Why is the situation not analyzed more... instead of putting the women down in front of society by punishing her with jail or taking the children away like the "witches" in the 18th century?

WIC is a social program developed for women and children for food and food education but it's not thought through to the end....shouldn't the financial starter burden of carrying out a newborn along with the birth, education and all their needs (even if only at the level of hygiene) be supported? Why aren't there any government funds for this? There are funds for soldiers in combat (for bullet proof vests), there are even funds for bullet proof vests for police dogs on the job...Where is the bullet proof vest for the pregnant women in the U.S.A? Who protects and looks after them and their babies needs? In comparison to the funding of the war this should be possible? And in comparison to other countries, take a closer look at the system in Germany or Sweden... USA has reserved a seat way in the back, clearly in the last rows of the family orientated auditorium.

The employees at WIC could ask pregnant women and women with babies, children "Do you have everything you need? Are you missing something?" I think most mamas and mamas to be would be truthful in stating certain things which they need at the moment. Examples might be shortly before the birth date maybe thick panty liners, breast feeding pads/liners, baby bottles, maybe even a baby bed or baby bedding...why doesn´t anyone ask about or help with these things?

Naturally, my possibilities being a stay at home mom of 6 small children (the oldest being 7) aren't without boundaries. So, taking what I have.... for example my oil paintings and turning them into a product, I can hopefully someday finance a legal charity to help pregnant women and newborn babies in the future.

Without hopes and what may seem to others as hopeless efforts, dreams stay out of reach. Don't be afraid to step out of bounds... discover a new destination without reservation.
